Six months ago, if someone had told me that I would become a Recruitment Coordinator, I probably would have laughed. I began my career at AseraCare in October 2018. I had heard great things about AseraCare from a friend who used to work for the company as a hospice aide. After doing my own research, I discovered that AseraCare was a company that I could believe in and the core values that the organization stood for rang true with my own beliefs.

I was hired as the Business Office Specialist for a satellite branch and 8 months into my career took over as the Business Office Specialist for the parent branch as well. I loved being a BOS. It was challenging but so rewarding. I had a hand in not only supporting the staff members of the agency but also the patients we served. It was in this position that I realized I had a heart for hospice and knew that I had found my calling.

Did you ever notice that life has a way of coming in and shaking things up?

And sometimes during all the change, we don’t realize that this is the Universe’s way of putting us on the right path? In October 2019, life gave me a good shake. Due to some restructuring, I was offered the position of Recruitment Coordinator. I was excited and terrified at the same time. I had experience in recruiting but had always seen myself in business and finance. I took the position knowing I was stepping out of my element and out of my comfort zone. I can say now that it was by far the best decision I could have made. I love getting to learn another side of the Hospice business. What I didn’t realize until I took this position is how all the departments within the company work collaboratively together towards the goals of excellent patient care and employee job satisfaction.

One of the newer functions of my role is to support candidates through their onboarding process. What this means is letting them know what steps come next, where we are in the process and helping to answer any questions they have. Recently a candidate told me that she had never worked with a company that communicated with the candidate as much as our recruiting department did and what a difference it made knowing what to expect next and when to expect it. That made me so happy! We want our candidates to know that AseraCare values them. In my opinion, the foundation for this is a good recruiting and hiring experience. I know that simple things like knowing what to expect next in the process or a “Just checking in” text can make the difference to a candidate making a major change in their career. I always want to reassure them that choosing to come to AseraCare was a good choice. It’s scary making big career moves! Believe me, I know!

I am so blessed to have been given the opportunity to step into this role.

I work with a great group of recruiters. The HR team who always goes above and beyond to ensure the employees feel heard, appreciated and supported. I am grateful for the fact that I get to work closely with the all the agencies with in AseraCare and their staff. But most of all, I enjoy getting to help candidates and new employees. I still remember during my own interview how the two AseraCare leaders I spoke to were so excited when speaking about AseraCare. I instantly felt like part of the team. I even made the comment that I felt like AseraCare was going to be the final stop on my career path. 18 months later, I still feel that same way!

As a Recruitment Coordinator, my goal is to make every candidate I support through their onboarding process feel just as excited and welcomed by me as I did when I was hired!
