As this work week comes to a close for many of us, our thoughts continue to revolve around the impact of this national pandemic. Now more than ever, we appreciate and value the healthcare professionals who are working around the clock to keep us safe and well. Around the world, these individuals are putting their lives on the line every day. Many do not get to come home to their loved ones at the end of each day. In honor of Doctors Day, which we are celebrating all week, we’d like to take a moment to recognize our National Medical Directors. The depth of their medical leadership has helped guide us through this trying time. We are doing everything we can to protect our frontline staff and working hard to help avoid overburdening the system.
Jennifer Lowe Ellis, MD, MPH, HMDC
Dr. Jennifer Ellis has been with AseraCare for over 15 years. She serves as one of our National Medical Directors and is also the agency Medical Director for our Clarksville, TN agency. Her favorite part of being a Hospice Medical Director is being able to work as part of a team to offer support and medical expertise to patients and families during a what can be a stressful and anxious time. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading on her back porch, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Mahveen Hussain, MD, CMD, HMDC
Dr. Hussain serves as one of our National Medical Directors and is also the agency Medical Director for our Stockton, CA agency. She has been with us since 2006! Her favorite memory from her time with AseraCare is when she had the opportunity to go to Capitol Hill with her colleagues to advocate for the Rural Access to Hospice Act and the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act. She shared, “it showed me how passionate we at AseraCare are for making a difference for all Americans. We have a voice, and it worked!” In her free time, Dr. Hussain organizes and coaches elementary and junior high Science Olympiads and Math Olympiads in her community. She loves being able to give back and inspire kids to be the next generation of scientists and scholars. She shared.”it’s a lot of fun, and my kids have made lots of friends and good memories!”
“I have been asked several times why AseraCare has two National Medical Directors, and my response is always – well, let me tell you about Drs. Jennifer Ellis and Mahveen Hussain. These two women are exceptional clinicians who have a heart for caring and service to others. Whether it be helping to recruit, onboarding new Medical Directors and Hospice Physicians, or working to ensure our patients receive the medications they need for proper care and comfort, they always exhibit excellence. They further demonstrate clinical leadership and expertise by strengthening our partnerships, supporting medical claims reviews, developing clinical education and training that can be delivered virtually to either internal or external audiences, and in their roles of Medical Director for our Clarksville, TN agency and Stockton, CA agency. AseraCare is extraordinarily fortunate and grateful to Drs. Ellis and Hussain for the clinical leadership role they play in delivering on our Mission – To share our passion for improving quality of life through innovative healthcare one person, one family, and one community at a time. From all of us at AseraCare – THANK YOU!!”
