What is a Provider Relations Manager?

For many people, talking about hospice can be difficult. There may be times when you need information about hospice, and you need someone who can listen to your concerns and present options that meet your goals and needs.

A Provider Relations Manager is a business development leader at AseraCare Hospice. The role of a Provider Relations Manager can be vast, depending on the task at hand. Let’s talk about what a Provider Relations Manager does. A Provider refers to a referral source. Relations are the way in which two or more things or people (or in this case, referral sources) are connected. Provider Relations Managers travel throughout his our her assigned territory and manage relationships with physicians, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, senior centers, and the general public to grow hospice awareness and better equip them for access to programs.

An Advocate

Provider Relations Manager is an important role. They collaborate with the medical community to ensure their patients and residents have access to the best quality of life and care possible. We work together with medical providers to help families get the full term and scope of hospice services and benefits they are entitled to. For some families, a Provider Relations Manager is the first person they consult with after hearing the word hospice from their doctor. We help families determine next steps, goals, and learn about the benefits of hospice services. We share the mission of hospice as a compassionate support system tailored to make each and every moment matter. A Provider Relations Manager is an Advocate.

An Educator

A Provider Relations Manager also provides education for the general public. There can be many misconceptions about what hospice is. People may not understand that hospice is NOT about giving up. They may not know that improving quality of life through a holistic approach of comfort care and dignity is part of the hospice philosophy. As a Provider Relations Manager, and Marine Corps veteran, I enjoy telling people about AseraCare’s We Honor Veterans program. Each of our expertly trained staff receives specialized education on caring for, and honoring our military veterans. I often reflect with people about the beautiful hospice moments they’ve experienced. Many times during educational presentations, people who have had personal experiences with hospice will give testimony. They will often share stories of grace, having the opportunity to make amends or their extraordinary experiences of support and care for someone they love. They almost always say they wished they had called hospice sooner. People may not know that hospice is an entitlement benefit with little to no cost for patients and families. A Provider Relations Manager is an Educator.

A Resource

A Provider Relations Manager is someone you can turn to for guidance and support as you determine the best way to care for you or your loved one. A Provider Relations Manager is responsible for growing a greater hospice presence among medical providers to help people get the services and resources they need. A Provider Relations Manager educates and advocates for a greater public understanding of hospice and palliative care. A Provider Relations Manager is a Resource.
